MY ORDEAL IN THE ER

I  checked into the Emergency Room (E R)  on the 30th of September 2014 for a procedure. I had hemorrhoids and it gave me a huge abscess so I was scheduled for an I&D procedure. Now the Emergency room of the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital is quite small with a fifteen bed space. So getting a bed space wasn't  easy. Since the surgery needed to be carried out in the theater (operating room) of the Emergency room, I had to wait for some patients to be stransfered to the ward.
I was in deep excruciating pains but couldn't help noticing my surroundings. Dayuuuum, the Emergency room or casualty as its locally called, was smelling, stinking so bad I had to get  nose pads for coverage. Though I was screaming in pains, I was praying that I don't get any disease or infection from the hospital.
The Doctors were doing their best, I must say at this particular juncture that I was really impressed by  the doctors. They were up and coming, attending to patients. It kind of reminded me of scenes from the TV series "Gray's Anatomy". The team work between the  resident doctors was awesome. In my pains, I still saw people going through worst. Omo, I thanked God I was still better off. Folks listen up, at any particular time you find yourself healthy, you really need to thank God because you are not better off the folks in the hospital. It has nothing to do with your righteousness, intelligence, carefulness or any other thing for that matter. It's just God's mercies and you need to be thankful for that.
OK, that said, back to my experience ;so finally, the doctor came to attend to me and after the final checks, he put me through what the procedure for the surgery would be, the time and everything I needed to know about the surgery. (just like in the movies). Anyways I was forming James Bond but deep inside, I was dying of fear. "Damn this shit is becoming real" I thought to myself, this is the first time am sick in fifteen years and the first time to go to a hospital as a patient since I knew myself, so you can imagine . After signing the consent form......, shit became "realler". Thank God for my Sweetheart and sister by my side.
Now the time for the surgery. Due to the failure of the Government officials to provide facilities at public hospitals because they don't go there but fly  abroad for the slightest of headaches, a vital equipment that was supposed to support my legs was not available, so I couldn't be given an anastasia that would make me sleep during the painful procedure, rather I had to be awake feeling the pains as the doctors did their thing even after the injections given to me to numb the area. Who sigh, baba still feel pains. After about twenty minutes it was all over and the pains reduced drastically. Doctors Bassey and Osaze were really helpful, trying to chat me up about different issues so as to take my mind off the pains, dude they tried but it didn't work.
I slept off at the recovery room for about two hours and when I was examined and was certified ok, I was moved out of the ER.
In conclusion,God didn't just hold me, He carried me through the process, am so grateful for His mercies . I found out that we still  have doctors working in government's hospitals and doing their jobs with the upmost dedication, joy and passion. It gives  me hope for our great country Nigeria. Some of the nurses too gave their shit the hardest expecially the young ones. The chief nursing officer was busy doing nothing but shouting on worried patients relatives, some of these nurses should take psychology classes .
So for the records, other health workers in the hospital should accord doctors with their full respect, they deserve it. Don't rub shoulders with them, yes we agree say you know, but "docky na docky". The professionalism they put in their work is superb. If you want to head a hospital or medical team, earn like them, just write jamb and go to medical school. Stop this comparism and petty talk of "is there anything  a doctor can do that I can't". Abeg make we try respect them. Let everyone just play their own role for the greater good. That's all.
Chioma chai my asanma,my anyanwu otutum, mpkorunma, you are a darling God bless you,my sisters Yaya, aunty Bernice, Hussein, Hassana God bless y'all, Drs Illah, Ogedengbe,Bassey and Osaze, God bless you guys real good. To You Lord be all the glory both now and forever. Baba God, You too much! Thank You Jesus.
